Giorgia
Mangio troppa cioccolata
Unpredictable Giorgia
review by Vitaliano Della Penna
Traslation by Carla Guido
Since her first record ("Giorgia", BMG
1993/94) Giorgia has managed to give an artistic and professional image of herself : her
interpretation of the song "E poi" was the first sign of an exalting future for
Giorgia and more in general a new hope for Italian light music. She won Sanremo Festival
in 1995 with the song "Come saprei", her great commercial success together with
many other songs taken from the album "Come Thelma e Louse"(BMG, 1995). In 1996
she triumphed with the song "Strano il mio destino" which is included in the
homonymous CD, recorded during the theatrical tour 94/95 and for a little part in studio.
In the meanwhile the Go Jazz , through Flying Records distribution, produces two live
albums ("Natural woman ", "One more go round") which show Giorgia' s
technical and stylistic apprenticeship: standard jazz, blues and soul, played live in a
club in the capital; their feeling is extraordinary and the atmosphere is unique. Giorgia
has already collaborated with important artists of Italian music: with Andrea Bocelli in
"Vivo per lei", with Pino Daniele in the album "Dimmi cosa succede sulla
terra" and with Elio e le Storie Tese in the album "Eat the phikis".
Non But what
about 1997? How does Giorgia look now? Part of her public would like to see her as a
graceful, elegant "lady" of the Italian music, perhaps still as the queen of
Sanremo festival; the rest of her fans would like to see a different image of the young
artist, far from classic rules, in a word innovative . She looks completely different now:
she had her hair cut! Her hair, the photo which shows her in front of a table completely
covered with chocolate and the set of many other photos express Giorgia 's wish to have
her youth back, differently from the reassuring aspect she has shown so far. Anyway she
doesn't look a big chocolate eater!!! "Mangio troppa cioccolata" gives the
impression of a dynamic, " fresh" record.
The CD contains 11 songs; 10 are unplugged and one is an historical cover ("Un'ora
sola ti vorrei"), re-proposed through an essential and efficient arrangement. Giorgia
is the author of almost all songs in collaboration with FABIO COLALSANTI; PINO DANIELE
wrote two songs of the album ("Arriva il temporale" e "Dimmi dove
sei").
Pino Daniele
took part in the artistic production; Greg M., who worked in the past with Lennon, Mc
Cartney & friends, collaborated in the arrangements. In conclusion the couple Todrani-
daniele, or, if you like, Giorgia- Pino, seems to give wonderful results.
We hope that Giorgia starts a new tour in Italy to make us feel those emotions her voice
can provoke through old and new successes.
